Hale Bopp comet

I guess we're supposed to post photos taken "in" Oregon............ and this one was. It's an oldie, but one of the hardest that I have ever done. It was a 16 minute long exposure taken on a home "jury rigged" tracking device.
After 3 months of attempts, I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. It all finally came together the night of the photo, then the bad weather set in as the comet finally got to low to view.
I got 3 wonderful photos that night with three different lenses.
That clear night on Dutchman Butte, east of Camas Valley, gave me the last chance at capturing a once in a lifetime event. For the next few weeks the wind, fog, and clouds took away any further attempts......... and by then it was gone... below the horizon.
Tho not really a true "Oregon" photo theme, it's the one I am most proud of because of it's difficulty.
The recent Deep Impact by NASA made me think of posting this one. It's a digital image of a mounted photograph originally taken on Ektachrome 400.
